River Cleanup is an initiative dedicated to tackling the global issue of plastic pollution in rivers, aiming to prevent waste from reaching our oceans. Their mission is to clean rivers, raise awareness, and inspire communities to take action for a cleaner environment. One of the campaigns River Cleanup annually participates in is the World Cleanup Day, a global event that mobilizes millions of volunteers across the globe to clean up litter and waste, uniting communities in a collective effort to protect the environment.
Besides their annual campaign, River Cleanup organizes clean-up campaigns in Belgium and around the world, train communities to prevent plastic pollution and implement waste systems. They work transparently and show exactly what positive impact they have had over a given period.
My role for River Cleanup varies from communication strategy, social media content, press releases, and the creation of print media and reporting. I also created an online database for their imagery, communication materials, and brand guidelines.
It is very satisfying to see the items I designed reflected during one of the many cleanups they organise. Creating effective social impact is one of the most important things for me as a designer, and I am grateful to be able to add to the positive impact of the River Cleanup mission.
Besides the creation of social media templates for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and email format, I created an easily accessible online platform for all staff, Cleanup warriors and press to access and use. This platform includes all social media guidelines, picture database, events and all template downloads. By directing the public to this platform instead of having to send the same communications materials each and every time, the River Cleanup team saves a lot of time.
